Julie A. Knight Monongalia County Commission

"The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you lived and lived well."

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

My name is Julie Anne Knight, and I am running for Monongalia County Commissioner.

Growing up in rural Doddridge County, West Virginia, my family and I travelled to Morgantown frequently. As a young girl, I felt the magnetic pull of Morgantown and knew I wanted to be a part of its energy. As a fellow creative, I was captivated by the vibrancy of WVU-the art, music, and culture drew me in. Being raised in a service-driven home instilled in me a deep commitment to our community. Becoming a mother of two wonderful children only strengthened that desire.

Over the past 28 years in Monongalia County, I witnessed our community thrive and grow. While development brings opportunity, I believe quality of life must remain at the forefront. We need to improve our roads, create affordable housing, and continue the revitalization of downtown Morgantown. As your county commissioner, I will strengthen our partnership with the Department of Highways-not just for new exit ramps and stoplights, but to improve the condition and safety of our existing roads. I will champion creative ideas to ensure our infrastructure is supported by continuous maintenance and reliable snow removal.

As a local realtor, I see firsthand the challenges of housing affordability in Monongalia County. I believe, regardless of economic status, every town, city, and village deserves clean water, reliable sewage systems, and a safe place to call home. Together, with bold ideas, we will identify developers specializing in affordable communities, fight to stabilize rents, invest in water and sewage infrastructure, and partner with local legislators for common-sense energy solutions. Together, we will bring even more vibrancy to our downtown. Main Street Morgantown and our City Council have made great strides-how about those Christmas lights this year?

Building on progressive, successful ideas from other communities, I will bring compassionate, creative solutions for our unhoused neighbors; am committed to unraveling the conundrum of large trucks traversing our downtown streets; and by developing partnerships with local legislators to decriminalize marijuana, we can capture much-needed tax revenue for our community.

As a problem solver, a hard worker, and with a passion to improve life for our community, I would be honored to earn your vote for Monongalia County Commission.
